studyRE.com

... a basic and simple resource for those studying Religious Education at Key Stage 3 & Key Stage 4 (Years 7-11) in the UK ... contains relevant links to other sites ... explains basic facts about the six major world religions ... introduces topics of morality ... shows off some of the work done by pupils at the school in which I teach ... this site is maintained purely on a professionally personal basis and does not reflect any beliefs held by the WebMistess ...

Let's begin with a simple question asked by many pupils, and occasionally even by their parents.  "Why do I have to do RE?  I don't want to be a priest / I don't believe in God / Religious people are boring / Add your own comment." (*delete as appropriate)

In response ...

*  Religious Education gives you the opportunity to think about, and develop your own opinions on, moral and ethical issues.
*  RE helps you to think about
life.
*  RE helps you to
understand others.
*  RE helps you to understand issues that are in the
news.
*  RE does not pressure you into entering a faith, but
does help you to establish your own personal beliefs, whatever they may be.
*  In RE you learn about different beliefs & cultures. One day you may be working with people from different religions, you may move to a country where the laws are based on a religion other than Christianity, you may even fall in love with someone with a strong religious conviction - studying RE helps you to understand the cultures and feelings of other people.
* Studying RE helps you to see the world from many different viewpoints.

* In RE you learn to accept that people do not always share your opinions and that regardless of whether you agree with an opinion or not you do have the freedom to have your own point of view!

  • Will include not only the fundamental belief systems in place but also some of the beliefs regarding morality and ethics.

  • The Webmistress reserves the right to publish pupil examples on this site.

  • Will not include detailed SoW nor lesson plans, but may include information pertaining to the teaching of pupils in educational establishments within the UK.

  • Also a handy way of ensuring that my dissertation from my RS uni course is published.  This dissertation questions the beginning of the LDS (Mormon) Church.
