- the founder of Christianity was Jesus,
believed by Christians to be the Son of God
- Christianity is approximately 2000
years old
- Jesus was born in Bethlehem in what
is now Israel
- he was raised as a Jew
- the Christian holy book is the Bible
- they believe this tells the truth about Jesus and contains
information on how life should be lived
- Christians usually worship in a
church
- key festivals in the life of a
Christian include Christmas, Easter,
Ascension Day and Pentecost
- the religious symbol is the cross
- Christians believe that there is only
one God, who acts in the world as Father, Son and Holy Spirit (the Trinity)
- they believe that God created the
world and humans in his image. God is love, and out of love,
he sent his son [Jesus] to live and die for humanity
- many Christians believe that Jesus
died to save people from the punishment which human sin deserves -
death. They believe that if people believe in Jesus as God's
son and their saviour, they will have eternal life in heaven
- Christianity developed in different
places in different ways. This is why there are so many denominations
of Christianity. Most of these denominations [groups] fall
under the three main Churches - Roman Catholics, Orthodox Christians
and Protestants (Church of England, Methodist,
Baptist, etc)
